Program Overview


ENGL 389 (3 credits) Stratford Shakespeare Experience offered during Summer Session II 2026 culminates with a trip to Stratford Ontario to see plays by William Shakespeare and other playwrights.  In addition to plays, students will experience a backstage tour, speak with performers, and tour the largest costume and prop warehouse in North America. The class will depart from Pittsburgh International Airport on Thursday, July 23rd and return on Monday, July 27th. Students enrolled in this program would be responsible for the program cost noted below as well as 3 credits of summer tuition and fees. Costs


A non-refundable application fee of $100.00 will be paid at the time of application. The application fee covers administrative costs for associated with this program.

Estimated Costs: $1000.00 + 3 summer tuition credits & fees (estimated costs-final costs to be confirmed closer to the program application deadline)
Cost includes:
  • Coach transportation to and from Stratford, Canada
  • Breakfasts
  • Most program activities including plays and backstage tours 
  • Shared accommodations (queen room for one student and junior suites with a queen bed and a sofa bed for 2 students)
Not included in the program cost above:
  • Basic international travel insurance-estimated at $16 per week of travel. Participants will purchase this insurance during the spring semester during orientation 
  • Personal spending money-we recommend an estimated $500-$600 in personal spending money to cover meals beyond breakfasts and incidentals including personal shopping. This estimate is determined by previous student reports of personal spending and may vary by participant.
  • Vaccine/Health related expenses
