Program Overview
Morocco is one of the world's most fascinating cultural melting pots where African, Arab, Amazigh, European, Muslim, Jewish, and Mediterranean civilizations have co-existed for centuries. This unique history and multicultural landscape are the perfect context to experience, examine, and understand the complexities of identity, linguistic diversity, cultural hybridity and intercultural communication dynamics. During this trip, students will explore how Amazigh indigenous traditions, Arab and Islamic cultures, African heritage, and European colonial influences have shaped contemporary Moroccan society. Additionally, Morocco's multilingual environment presents the opportunity for direct exposure to Arabic in its various dialects, from Modern Standard Arabic used in formal contexts to Moroccan Arabic (Darija) spoken in daily life. Students will encounter other locally spoken languages, including Tamazight, French, Spanish, and English. This linguistic immersion will enhance students' Arabic proficiency while developing their sociolinguistic awareness and intercultural communication skills. The enrollment in this program will be capped at 20 students and applications will be reviewed and approved on a first-come/first-serve basis.
