Program Overview

Imagine an opportunity to learn more about public relations and marketing communication practices—but in another country. A study trip to Barcelona, Spain, offers you the perfect way to explore differences in culture, in communication practice and in the workplace, all in a country with a rich history and different traditions. We hope you will consider joining us to learn more about your major in an exciting international setting. This experience abroad will give you valuable international perspective as you begin your communication careers.

In addition to our study visits at Spanish companies and PR/IMC agencies, we’ll see plenty of sites like: Antoni Gaudi’s 142-year-old Basilica de la Sagrada Familia, his Casa Battlo and Park Guell; we’ll cook paella and take a tapas walking tour of the Gothic Quarter; we’ll watch a flamenco show; we’ll visit the Picasso Museum, among many others.

Students must enroll in COMM 336 Media Relations & Crisis Communication in the spring ’25 semester to participate. If students already have taken COMM 336, they must be enrolled in either COMM 431 PR & IMC Campaigns Capstone or COMM 497 Senior Capstone Seminar during the spring ’25 semester to participate.

Participants may explore their financial aid options. While financial aid could be used to cover your costs, it may reduce your refund or you may need to borrow to cover these additional costs.  Financial Aid eligibility cannot be guaranteed.

Applicants are responsible for meeting with Financial Aid Office to discuss financial aid options.  They can be reached at 724-738-2044 or financial.aid@sru.edu.  You can also book a phone appointment or zoom meeting at: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/SRUFinancialAidCounseling@sru.edu/bookings/

Further information about this program is available from the program leader noted below as well as the Office for Global Engagement which is located in Spotts World Culture Building-Room 002C-Ground Level.
