Program Overview

This faculty-led program to Italy during Spring Break 2020 is open to Symphonic Wind Ensemble students only. Students must be enrolled in MUSIC 114/214/314/414 to be considered for this musical exchange between SRU and Banda Santa Cecilia-Besana e Triuggio of Triuggio, Italy. Information about the program is available from the program leaders, Dr. Jonathan Helmick and Dr. Kathleen Melago as well as the Office for Global Engagement located in Spotts World Culture Building-Room 002C.

Timeline Important Dates
Fall publicity for Spring Break-Faculty Led Programs begins October, November 
Apply for your passport Immediately upon application (passport copies will be due to Global Engagement in December 2019)
Student applications & application fee due Last day of Spring registration (November 15, 2019)
Official acceptances announced Last week of November/First week of December
Students billed for program fees Mid December
Airline reservations confirmed Mid January (once airlines reservations are confirmed the airline tickets are non-refundable)
Pre-Departure meetings with Directors Mid January/February/March
Group departs Wednesday/Thursday/Friday before Spring Break (exact dates TBD)
Group returns Friday/Saturday/Sunday of Spring Break (exact dates TBD)


A non-refundable application fee of $125.00 will be paid at the time of application. The application fee covers the cost of an international student identity card ($25.00) and $100.00 administrative fee.

Estimated Costs: $430.00 + $125.00 application fee noted above + personal spending/meal money + the cost of transporting your instrument to and from Italy
Cost includes:
  • International airfare
  • Most program activities/site visits and excursions
  • Shared accommodations with host families selected by our in country host
  • Most breakfasts
  • In-country transportation
** We recommend an estimated $600.00-700.00 in personal spending money to cover meals and incidentals including personal shopping. This estimate is determined by previous student reports of personal spending and may vary by participant.**
