Program Overview

The business student of today must prepare themselves for success in the ever-expanding global economy in which they will compete. A visit to Belgium directly exposes the participating student to all aspects of marketing in a different country. Marketing's core subject areas consist of the 4 P's- product, price, promotion and place/distribution. Even the "casual' tourist to a foreign country observes many elements of the marketing mix. Student of this class will be prepped to note similarities and differences in such things as: product offerings, prices, sales and merchandising techniques, consumer behavior, advertising/promotional methods, customer service and to a lesser extent, distribution methods. By virtue of just traveling to and in Belgium/Europe students will experience commerce and the retail environment in a countries that are members of the European Union, be forced to deal with Eurodollars and exchange rates, and gain an appreciation for being able to communicate across cultures and languages. Participating students must be enrolled in MRKT 335-Retail Management during the spring 2020 semester or FIN 603-Global Dynamics of Business (MBA course during Pre-Session) to be eligible for this program. Further information is available from Dr. Nan Nicholls and Dr. Kurt Schimmel as well as the Office for Global Engagement (Spotts World Culture Building-Room 002C).
