Program Overview

This faculty-led program will take you to Auckland, New Zealand where you will have exciting cultural experiences such as visiting a Waitomo glowworm cave, exploring the Hobbiton™ Movie Set and sailing in the  Waitematā Harbour. You will spend two days at the Gaia (Earth) Preschool and two days at the Chrysalis Early Learning Center where you will learn about nature preschools. You will also visit the Waikato Institute of Technology where you will learn about the education system of New Zealand. You will have a complementary welcome and farewell dinner as well as complementary breakfasts at the hostel. Further information is available from Dr. Sara Tours & Dr. Jeremy Lynch as well as the Office for Global Engagement which is located in Spotts World Culture Building-Room 002C.

Students participating in this program must enroll in SPED 430 or ELEC 348 (01, 02) during the Spring 2020 semester.

A non-refundable application fee of $125.00 will be paid at the time of application. The application fee covers the cost of an international student identity card ($25.00) and $100.00 administrative fee.  Applicants are responsible for meeting with Financial Aid in 107 Maltby Center to determine financial aid eligibility to cover program costs noted below. Financial Aid is not guaranteed.

Estimated Costs: $3600.00 (estimated costs as of September 2019-exact cost to be announced in early December 2019)
Cost includes:
  • International airfare
  • Most program activities/site visits and excursions
  • Shared accommodations
  • Most breakfasts
  • In-country transportation
  • Travel Insurance
** We recommend an estimated $500.00-$600.00 in personal spending money to cover meals beyond breakfasts and incidentals including personal shopping. This estimate is determined by previous student reports of personal spending and may vary by participant and host country.**
