Program Overview

Recognizing the need to prepare leaders for a global society, the mission of the Leadership Abroad: Cultural Immersion Program is to provide an intentional co-curricular learning experience designed to develop and enhance the leadership capacities of students, through immersion in an international or culturally significant setting. 

The learning objectives set for this program as as follows:

  • Explore cultures different from their own.
  • Discuss the importance of different backgrounds, cultures and experiences related to leadership concepts.
  • Practice verbal and non-verbal communication with people from backgrounds and cultures different from their own.
  • Establish productive relationships with other program participants.
  • Develop an understanding of and practice group dynamics through interactions and group discussions with other program participants.
  • Demonstrate self -confidence through discovery of new experiences and moments of independence.
  • Formulate a personalized definition of leadership.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think reflectively and to convey thoughts and feelings through personal journals and group discussions.

Apply for your passport Immediately
Student applications & application fee due September 20, 2019
Official acceptances announced September 20, 2019
Mandatory-Pre-Departure meetings  October, November, December 2019
Students billed for program fees early November 2019
Airline reservations confirmed October 1, 2019 (airline fee non-refundable once confirmed)
Group departs January 2, 2020
Group returns January 12, 2020


A non-refundable application fee of $125.00 will be paid at the time of application. The application fee covers the cost of an international student identity card ($25.00) and $100.00 administrative fee. 

Estimated Costs: $2800.00-2900.00 per student (Estimated-Exact Cost To Be Confirmed in late September)
Cost includes:
  • International airfare
  • Most program activities/site visits and excursions
  • Shared accommodations
  • Most breakfasts 
  • Basic International Travel Insurance via the ISIC Card
  • In-country transportation
* The per student program cost does not include the fees for recommended vaccinations and personal spending money. We recommend about $500 for personal spending money. 
* Students participating in this program will not be earning academic credit and as such, will not be eligible for financial aid.
