Program Overview

Slippery Rock University College of Education majors have the unique opportunity to complete one month of their student teaching experience in Dublin, Ireland (Fall semesters) or Mexico City (spring semesters). The trips are led by experienced faculty members that are with the students for the duration of the trip. The program is open to all certification areas Pre-k-4 to secondary education, as well as art, music, and physical education majors. During these experiences, the students stay in pairs with host families, teach in the local schools, and experience cultural immersion through weekend trips to various sites in both countries. In Mexico, the school placement is at the American School Foundation, so it is English speaking, and the host families are bilingual. From castles to pyramids to local foods and local history, students that attend these experiences, walk away from the trips realizing it was the "trip of a lifetime". They also realize that it makes them standout in the job-seeking market place, when interviewing with school administrators.

Please contact Professor Sara Tours ( ) in Slippery Rock University College of Education for more information about the application and selection process.
