Program Overview


This faculty led program provides students with a quick, fun, and affordable way to combine Japanese language and cultural studies with international travel. While in Japan, students will have the opportunity to visit local schools, collaborate with students from SRU's exchange partner, Saga University, and participate in a variety of hands-on cultural activities all while seeing the historical sites in the amazing cities of Saga, Fukuoka and Nagasaki.

Students participating in this travel program to Japan must be enrolled in any one of the following courses during the Spring 2020 semester:

  • JAPN 102: Japanese Language & Culture II
  • JAPN 103: Japnese Language & Culture III
  • JAPN 215-Topics of Japanese Culture

Recruitment for Summer Pre-Session-Faculty Led Program begins September 2019
Apply for your passport Immediately upon application (a passport copy will be due in the Office for Global Engagement in December 2019)
Student applications & application fee due November 15, 2019
Official acceptances announced  early December
Mandatory-Pre-Departure meetings with participants in class meetings-January-May 2020
Students billed for program fees Mid December
Airline reservations confirmed Mid January 2020 (airlines are non-refundable once the flight reservation is confirmed in January 2020)
Pre-Departure meetings with Leaders in class discussions and some evening meetings
Group departs May 13, 2020
Group returns May 25, 2020

Costs


A non-refundable application fee of $125.00 will be paid at the time of application. The application fee covers the cost of an international student identity card ($25.00) and $100.00 administrative fee. Since this program is associated with enrollment in the academic courses noted above, students may be eligible to explore financial aid for this program. Please visit the Financial Aid Office in 107 Maltby center to inquire.

Estimated Costs: $1850 (Estimated cost as of September 2019)

  • International airfare
  • Most program activities/site visits and excursions
  • Shared accommodations
  • Most breakfasts
  • In-country transportation
  • Basic international travel insurance (via the ISIC card)
